What is a ring

Ring is a Chinese word with the pinyin ji è zhi. It is a small ring worn on the finger as a commemorative or decorative device, made of metal, jade, etc.
Rings were often referred to as "rings" in ancient China, and the emergence of the name "ring" was a matter of the Yuan Dynasty.
Origin of China
1. Origin: Qin and Han Dynasties
In China, the use of rings has a history of at least two thousand years.
It is reported that the ring originated from ancient Chinese courts. Women wear rings to remember events. A ring is a symbol of "prohibition" and "cessation". At that time, the emperor had three palaces, six courtyards, and seventy-two concubines. If she is favored by the emperor in the harem, the eunuch records the date she accompanied the king and wears a silver ring as a mark on her right hand. When the empress became pregnant, she informed the eunuch and put a gold ring on her left hand to show her ring.
The ring has spread to the people, and its function is not just a simple decoration. Men and women love each other, give each other gifts, and swear by mountains and seas as evidence. It originated from practicality and gradually shifted towards the unity of aesthetics and wealth, and was gradually endowed with different cultural meanings.
2. The emergence of the term "ring" during the Yuan Dynasty
The third compromise in Guan Hanqing's opera work "Mid Autumn Cut at the Wangjiang Pavilion" of the Yuan Dynasty is: "(Zhengdan Yun) This is the gold medal. Love me in the yamen and give me a ring. What's this?" The term "ring" appears here.
The Korean Chinese textbook "Pu Tong Shi Proverbs" preserved in the remaining version of the "Yongle Da Dian" includes: "If you redeem less, twenty taels is not enough. In a house, I will redeem another pair of head masks, seven treasures of gold, a pair of earrings, and a pair of gold rings embedded in caves. These six items are worth fifty or ten taels of silver, totaling two hundred taels of silver, representing a large house
The term 'ring' has been widely used since the Ming Dynasty
It wasn't until the Ming Dynasty that the term 'ring' became more common. When it comes to Ming Dynasty clothing, the book "Customs of Ancient Chinese Clothing" says, "As for calling it a ring, it seems to have been a thing since the Ming Dynasty." Ming Wang Qi's "Three Talents Map Society" also says, "The nineteen descendants of the Later Han Dynasty, Cheng, made contributions to the establishment of Emperor Shun, and each gave them a gold bracelet ring, which is now the ring
